SHANE DAWSON: INTERNET SENSATION
(AND MY IDOL)
 |
Two New York Times Award Winning Books |

Shane Dawson, where do I begin? Should I start off by the fact that he is an awesome Youtuber that changed many peoples lives including mine? Or that he is an extravagantly successful person who has already made two award winning books, acted in several movies, has over 9 million subscriber on both his youtube channels, and who now hosts a very popular podcast? I guess I'll go with both. In the autobiography: I Hate Myselfie, you will get to learn how Shane Dawson's troubles and doubts and insecurities help him become an internet sensation. In the first five chapters of the book, you will already get moved by how funny, awesome, and interesting this guy really is. You'll also get to know some of his stories from the past like how he hated getting haircuts (because he was insecure) or how he got the role of a fat guy in a play (because at the time he was a little "cushion for the pushin") or even how he got his first kiss by playing a role that required him to kiss another girl in a film. Now, this book might give you an atmosphere of funny, but behind it all the jokes and everything, its actually pretty sad as well. In one of these five chapters, it explains how some kids in his freshman years bullied him verbally for being fat. In these parts of the book I really felt sad for him. What I like about these chapters is the fact that it doesn't go in the order of his life. In one chapter he'll be 21 years old, and in the next one, he'll be 15. In reading these first five chapters, it really made me interested to know more of what will happen.
Quotes:
1. "Destinee: I think I took a little too much off the back. I might have to even your hair out. Are you ok with that?
Am I OK WITH THAT?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! NO! THAT WAS NOT OK!!!!

Shane's old haircut |
Me: Sure"
- I really found this quote amazingly funny because I can relate to that when I'm cutting my hair. In the book he says he has a hard time saying what he thinks because he is afraid of what other people might think of him. In this quote, it really shows how it can affect him.
- Page 21, chapter 2, I Hate My Selfie.
- In the end, the haircut turned out great!
2. "Surfer Kid 3: Fat people are sad. Is it bad that sometimes I don't consider fat people to be people? Like, I think of them as animals or robots or something. Know what I mean?
- This was really hard for me to read because of how mean this quote was. It really made me think about the judgment people go through because the are fat or different from others. In another quote in the book, a kid says that fat people are want to kill themselves slowly by eating a lot of food! This really made me angry with how society is today.
- Page 62, chapter 5, I Hate Myselfie.
- The worst part was that all these kids said that in front of Shane. The reason he was fat was because he had an eating disorder.
Conclusion:
I really like the first five chapters! It brought my attention and made me want to keep on reading. This book I am very exited to read because the author is my favorite person in the world! I can't wait to see what is next because every chapter inspires me o become a better person in life. I can not really predict what will happen next because the book doesn't go in order. What I do know is that it will be funny, sad, happy, energetic, and inspirational!
