Meeting New People

Meeting New People

Hello and welcome back to another blog about Ghostopolis! Last time, we left off at a very intense part where Garth and Skinny were chased by zombie velociraptors. Luckily, there was a cliff coming by and the horse stopped right before he could fall. Soon after the velociraptors didn't see the cliff and they went falling to there misery! Meanwhile, Frank and his ghostly ex-girlfriend started to get the machine ready to save Garth and bring him back to the living. As that happened, the boy met someone very interesting! His grandfather, Cecil. It was really surprising for Garth because he his grandpa wasn't old, in fact, he was just about his age! Cecil explained how in Ghostopolis, people are put into there internal age. He said its a chance to take care of unfinished business. As Garth and his grandfather were talking, Frank got inside the machine with Clair. Finally, they zap into Ghostopolis! Meanwhile, Garth and his grandfather head towards the dead city to find a way to get back to the living. Suddenly, Cecil started to grow and now he was a teenager! It was probably because he admitted that he was a drunk and that he never talked to his daughter or 20 years. Finally, Clair and Frank arrived at Ghostopolis. This is the part where Frank is informed about Vaugner, the leader of the ghost realm. Oh yeah, and also Clair's ex-boyfriend. She told Frank how he has made the entire afterlife a dump. Meanwhile, Garth and Cecil arrive to the city of Ghostopolis and the boy gets to see many new people, better yet, ghosts. It appears that in the after life, there are many types of supernatural beings. In total, there are seven species that each belong to a lord, king or queen. There is the Will O The Wisp Queen, The Mummy Pharaoh, The Spector King, The Duke of Goblin, The Bone King, The Zombie Lord and the King of the Boogeymen. Later on, Garth's grandpa explained how all these provinces follow the orders of Vaugner. He purposefully manipulated all of them to get into a war. Then he came up and presented himself as the "Peacemaker" and later told the provinces that rage will still be in there hearts unless he becomes king of the afterlife. Since then, he now has ruined Ghostopolis and it has become very bad in its conditions. Meanwhile, the two looking for Garth go to Clair's uncle which is a Wolf. As they go inside his house, the uncle explains where Garth is and how to find him. Sadly, this is where we stop.

QUOTE:

1.) "Love is in the acts, not in the feelings."
  • This quote is on page 129 by Doug TeNNapel. I really like this quote because it's very wise and smart. This quote is at the part where Clair and Frank go to the Wolf (Claire's uncle) to see where Garth was. When the we're going out, the Wolf said this quote. This is a very important part because this is when Clair realizes how she feels about the human.

CONCLUSION

Getting to read this comic is really fun! It's full of adventure and mysterious things. I really like how creative it is as well. In these pages, there was a lot of questions answered and I thought that was awesome. Another thing I like about this book is that it gets to the point very quickly! Well, until next time!

Goodbye Garth, Hello Ghostopolis

Goodbye Garth, Hello Ghostopolis

Hurray! We have finally made it through the next book, or should I say comic? Yes, we are now reading a book called Ghostopolis and it is very interesting! Since this is a comic book, I'll be able to finish reading it very quickly! Now lets start the new adventure! In the first few pages (not chapters) we get to meet our wonderful main character, Garth. He seems like a playful boy and very unique with his imagination. Another character we get to see is Frank, an employee at the Supernatural Immigration Task Force Head Quarters, and his job is to catch ghosts and send them back to Ghostopolis. Now, back to Garth. Unfortunately he is going through some tough times as he and his mother is notified of the rare and incurable disease Garth has. The doctor tells both of them that he doesn't have much time left. Later on, Frank goes back to headquarters to see if he has to find more ghosts. His boss finally tells him the location and goes to a creepy house where he finds something very surprising. Meanwhile, Garth and his mother arrive at their house all sad. He starts a conversation talking about his dead grandfather while his mother cooks. The discussion takes a wrong turn when his mother calls Garth's grandfather a drunk. Suddenly, he goes up to his room to lay on his bed. When Frank finally arrives at the given location, he finds a horse ghost! He tries his best to catch him, but it's to difficult. The horse escapes and goes through a wall into another house, Garth's house. Suddenly, the horse goes above the kid and gets caught up inside his ribcage. As the horse struggles to move, Frank pressed the button to send the animal straight back to Ghostopolis. The bad this is... The horse was sent with Garth inside! Sadly, because of this, Frank got fired. But he doesn't give up yet! He goes to a secret garage where his ghostly ex girlfriend lives and asks her for help. Since Clair is a mechanic, she has built a machine which can travel to Ghosopolis. But the thing is, this machine only has enough power to travel there and then come back to Earth. So they have one chance! Meanwhile, in Ghostopolis (where Garth is trapped), he gets to tame the horse and even give it a name, Skinny. Suddenly, they both get chased by zombie velociraptor's. Sadly, thats where we end!

QUOTES

1.) "Grampa was poor and he learned how to fly a plane."

  • pg. 20 (Doug TenNaple)
  • Since this isn't a serious comic book, the quotes aren't that serious either. But this one made me think how this could teach the readers something valuable. That lesson could show the audience how anything is possible and that it doesn't matter how rich or poor you are. Another lesson can be how you should never give up the dreams you really want.
2.) "STOP! Stop acting like you care and tell me the truth! You're not telling me anything are you?!"
  • pg. 41 (Doug TenNaple)
  • This is a quote directly from the mother the day her son went missing. Since Garth is the only kid she has, she is very worried, angry, frustrated and depressed. Frank Gallows doesn't really seem to be worried about her feelings, and that is whats causing her to be very angry with him. But later on, he finds a solution.

Conclusion

Wow! I really like this comic book! It grabbed my attention and I can't wait to read more! The topic is really awesome and it gets right to the point without having a terribly long beginning. There is drama, comedy, spookiness and a little bit of love. I predict that in the next pages, Garth will face terrible dangers with the dead in Ghostopolis! But we'll see! Until next  time!

New Responsibility

NEW RESPONSIBILITY

Welcome again to another blog about Enders Game! These four chapters have been very fun to read as well as interesting (as always). Last time we left off at the part where Ender was moved up to the Salamanders and the fun did not stop there! Ender finally gets his own team to battle and he's the leader of the Dragons! Whats even better, is that his launchies are the students he used to train with before commander Graff moved Ender to the Salamander team. Fortunately, his first battle was a success and the rest to come! Finally, the day came to battle against the Salamanders and Bonzo. This was obviously a very intense match. The good thing was that Ender had a few launchies with him that were from the Salamander team including Petra. This was an advantage because she knows the opponents strategies. With a lot of special techniques and smart moves, the Dragons won and Bonzo was furious. This is where we move on to the next chapter where a fight comes down in between Bonzo and Ender! Things started getting intense when Ender was in the showers and Bonzo came rushing in with 7 other kids. Ender warns him to back off before Bonzo gets hurt, but he isn't that easy. Suddenly, Bonzo attacks and Ender hits him in the crotch (ouch!). Finally, he backs off and lays on the ground with intense pain as his friends try to help him. Ender starts crying because of what he did. But at least Bonzo would be afraid and never attack him again.

QUOTES

1.) "In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him. I think it’s impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves. And then, in that very moment when I love them.... I destroy them."

  • pg.) 185 (chapter 10)
  • I really think this quote is clever and intelligent. I think it gives a lot of personality to Ender as well as show the readers that he is very strategical and intelligent.
  • A question I would ask Orson Scott  is: Where did your creativity and wiseness come from?
2.) "If you try and lose then it isn't your fault. But if you don't try and we lose, then it's all your fault."

    Image results for team work
  • pg.) 224 (chapter 12)
  • I think this quote is deep and clever (as always). It teaches you a lesson to always try hard and do your best. I think this quote is emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

CONCLUSION

I think these chapters are very interesting and fun! Like I said in the past blog, Bonzo and Ender will have something intense in between them, and it happened! The book is coming along very nicely and I can't wait to see what happens next. I predict that the next chapters will be about the last battle against the Buggers. I'm exited and nervous! Well, until next time!

Training

The Training

Yes! Believe it or not, we are halfway through the book and things are getting very interesting and intense! Now, where were we? Oh yeah, Ender had been traveling to the military base to start training. So lets get started! Ender has finally arrived at the military base and Graff (the military general) talks in private with another military commander about isolating Ender so that he can focus more on training. Surprisingly, he made friends and happily trained. For the next few weeks, Ender would play games to help him become a better and smarter. This kid Bernard (who is also in the academy) teases Ender and another boy named Shen, but revenge arises slowly as Ender hacks the system and makes Bernard angry with a fake student account that Ender had created. This makes Bernard blame all his friends and causes them to ignore him. In the next chapter, trains with new techniques and new equipment. He and the other launchies (his companions) are introduced to the gravity suit and its gun. Later on the all go in a zero gravity room and start shooting each other in curiosity. After everyone noticed that the gun freezes other people, they would all go in teams and battle each other. During free time, Ender plays this mind game that is about a giant and a mouse. The mouse would have to chose in between to cups in which one was poisoned. Later on, Ender realizes that both the cups are poisoned and the only way to get past the giant is to kill him. This makes Ender very sad as he thinks about his brother Pete as he plays this. Another interesting thing is that Ender gets moved up to an advanced class! In this team, Ender will finally get to have real battles but there is something wrong. The teams leader, Bonzo,  is immediately strict with him and doesn't like Ender at all. But the good thing is that Ender made a new friend called Petra Arkanian.

Quotes

1.) "Perhaps it's impossible to wear an identity without becoming what you pretend to be."

  • Pg. 89 (chapter 7)
  • I really like this quote because it is very sentimental and honest. It can almost teach you a small lesson about being yourself.
  • A question I have for the author is: Where did you get your inspiration in writing this quote?
2.) "He could see Bonzo's anger growing hot. Hot anger was bad. Ender's anger was cold, and he could use it. Bonzo's was hot, and so it used him."

  • Pg. 113 (chapter 7)
  • This quote is very smart and well thought out. It can show the reader how smart and tactical Ender could really be. Also, I think it really shows a lot of character for him.

Conclusion

I am really catching up to the style of this book! Last time it didn't really grab my attention, but later on the book can get a lot better and more interesting. I think the author of this book is very creative and smart. I predict that maybe Ender might fall in love or something dramatic will happen. I also thinks it pretty obvious that something intense will happen in between Bonzo and Ender. Well, until next time!

Image Image for neck chip

Yay! We are reading a new book! This one is called Enders Game and it is very exiting because its Science Fiction! Now, lets get started! Since I have read the first four chapters of the book, I can now tell my audience about them. First off, Ender is a very smart kid and is the youngest of three. One day, he was in school and was, surprisingly, sent to the infirmary. Apparently, that was the day that he would get his chip removed from the back of his neck. This chip was very important since it was a symbol that meant that Ender was one of the genius kids. But not anymore. The monitor was also a pass to get him into the special school everyday. During the removal, Ender screamed in pain since the chip was connected to his nervous system. But a few hours later, he was sent home. He was now, a normal kid. NOT! The reason why he was kicked out of the school was because a military general wanted Ender to go to a military base in space, to train for a deadly battle against the Buggers (a disgusting race of aliens). The night Ender was kicked out of the school, the family had dinner and they were having a long discussion about what happened. Enders other siblings Peter and Valentine, were also in the school of the genius kids, but they were kicked out as well. In the 4th chapter of the book, the author writes about something very exciting. The journey to his Enders new life in which he would train with other genius kids to have a victory against the deadly Buggers humanity fought a long time ago.

Quotes

1. "Sometimes lies are more dependable than the truth."
Image Image
  • I found this quote very interesting and well thought out. It seems more like a lesson or a truth. This quote is very wise and very relatable too. Sometimes, I actually do depend on lies more than the truth usually when Im afraid or nervous.
  • Pg. 22 chapter
2."I’m not used to seeing his facial expressions. I’m used to feeling them."

  • I really like this quote because it very meaningful and symbolical. It is well made and I find it very creative. It kind of leaves a small message to how often Ender "feels" Pete's facial expressions.
  • Pg. 32 chapter 2

Conclusion

Science-fiction is not my favorite type genre. The movies, I love, but the books, meh. This book has not really captured my attention, but I will have to read more to see. Next, I predict that Ender will arrive at the military base and make new friends and even have some drama or maybe fall in love. Well, until next time!

SHHANE DAWSON'S
FUN FACTS!

First of all, the reason why this is the title is because in these chapters, Shane only put information of where he worked, what dreams he had, what friends he had, and how Youtube became his all-time job! These chapters were really interesting and fun to read! And as always, he made it funny. Oh yeah, and nothing sad (YAY!). One of these five chapters are really interesting and probably one of my favorites in the book! It is all about Astral Projection! This is a really interesting topic because it has a lot to do with dreaming and what the body can do when someone is asleep! Now first, you might be thinking: "this has nothing to do with Shane! Well, it does. You see, Shane (according to his book) has went through Astral Projection in his sleep when he was younger. What is Astral Projection? It is when you are sleeping, and your conscious mind (or soul) leaves your body and you enter the spirit realm! It may seem weird to you, but I think its true and very interesting! Now, back to Shane. He had many events where Astral Projection happened. His first time was when he moved to a new apartment. He was taking a nap and suddenly, he saw his own body while levitating up to the ceiling! This is very common (I researched). After he levitated to the ceiling, he decided to go to out of his apartment and go check out what's outside. He saw a man walking his dog and a women parking a car. While this was occurring to Shane, he thought it was a dream. But the next day, he saw the same man and the same women! Since he had just moved, Shane had never met them or seen them! He was freaked out! The second was his last because it got creepy. The day after the his first Astral Projection, he researched and it said Astral Projection was dangerous. Why? Because when you "leave your body" your letting other spirits or even DEMONS to freely get in. This is very dangerous! When shane went to sleep, the same thing happened to him. He just saw his body levitating! Suddenly, he sees a black shadow with red eyes and with the figure of an animal. He knew it was a demon, so he rapidly went back to his body and stepped foot out of it again! In another chapter, Shane talks about his "girl (space) friends". What does girl (space) friends mean? It means you have a friend that is a girl and nothing else! Shane had many of those, and in this chapter, he talks about ever single one of them he had. In his school, he wasn't that popular because he wasn't "manly" or fit, he was just overweight and had a really girly voice and personality! So he usually spent time with girls because that made him feel better! In one of the chapters, Shane tells about his strange addictions! Not drugs, alcohol, or his cellphone, but Splenda®! OMG! Even though it sounds like a joke, it isn't. He really was addicted to Splenda! And it was up to the point where he has had to go to the hospital! as you can see, these chapters were not really THAT sad or important, it was just interesting things about his life!

QUOTES

1.) " I can't stand judgmental people. The second somebody lifts their eyebrow at a situation I cut them out of my life. I like to live in a world where people can be whoever the heck they want and say whatever the heck they want to say.
-  pg. 172, I Hate My Selfie
-  I really found this quote interesting because I feel the same way! I really dislike people who judge because of they are different. I also want to live in a world where people can freely do things and not care what other people will judge about them! Many people can't live without doing that!

2.) "Our breakup broke the record for the most mutual parting of ways in history. Here’s the text-message conversation: Me: Hey . . . should we break up? Canadian: Ya probably. Me: Ok. Canadian: Did you watch Hoarders last night? Me: Ya! I can’t believe that woman ate her dead dog thinking it was jerky. Canadian: I know! Crazy! Me: Well . . . goodbye I guess. Canadian: Do we have to unfollow each other on Twitter? I’d rather still follow you. You have funny tweets. Me: No way. I never unfollow anyone. That’s so tacky. Canadian: Agreed."

- pg. 190, I Hate Myselfie
- This quote is very funny! It really is creative and it shows how Shane and his ex don't really care about the breakup. It reminds me of a friend-zone. Iv'e researched, and i found out that the both are still friends and still hang out!

CONCLUSION

These chapters were really funny and filled with extra information about Shane's life. I am really liking this book and I hope it just gets better and better! The topics in these chapters were really interesting especially the one about Astral Projection! Again, Shane Dawson  is my favorite person in the world and I am very happy to be reading his book! I can't really predict anything because (like I said) this book doesn't go in order. Until next time! Byeeeeee!

JOURNEY TO FAME
CHAPTER 6-11

Here we are again proudly with another blog about I Hate My Selfie! These next five chapters have really been fun to read. But like I said in the last blog, this autobiography is not only fun, but it's hard to read sometimes. First, let me start with the fact that in these five chapters, Shane rises up to fame, but don't get all excited  because he will also experience the sad and heartfelt death of his grandmother, and go through a lot of insecurities. Other interesting things is that he gets to meet his first fan, and he gets to play a role in a horror movie called Smiley Face! When Shane's grandmother died, he makes it sound very positive, but later on in the chapter, he explains how it really took a toll on him. To him, she was an amazingly funny and mean grandmother. He described her as "miserable, funny, awesome, mean, and unforgettable." (pg. 100 Dawson). With her personality like that, I would describe her as a tough cookie! She always inspired Shane to be strong and to never let people bring him down. This really inspired me well. In another chapter, Shane explains how he finally got to lose a total of 150 pound! This chapter really made me happy for him, until he included the part
where he had all the saggy skin. It's true, when you are overweight and lose a lot of pounds, there will be a lot of excess stretched out skin! This made Shane very insecure and depressed, but with the help of his friends he became a lot more confident! Also, did I mention the one-piece ladies swimsuit he would always wear under his close to keep his saggy skin from coming out? In another interesting chapter, he gets asked by a friend if he wants to play the role of one of the main character in Smiley Face. He said yes. This was very exciting for him because it was his first movie and he was a main character. This helped his fame a lot! In the fifth chapter I read, Shane had his first encounter with a fan. At the time, Youtube was new, so five-thousand subscribers was a lot! Anyway, Shane was in a restaurant and decided to go to the bathroom. When he was on his way, a random girl walked up to him and said "OMG! shane! I love your videos!" (pg. 110, Shane). This one compliment made him very happy to get noticed. As time went by, he gained more subscribers and more fame. Some of his fans were awesome, young, and nice people! But one day, he met a fan who happens to be the nurse that was going to do Shane's yearly checkup. And that would be have to be a full body examination. Yikes!

QUOTES-

1. "I just don’t have the willpower to hit up the gym every day for two hours, and the idea of cutting candy out of my diet seems impossible."

  • pg. 110, chapter 7, Shane Dawson
  • I thought this quote was very funny and clever! I found it very relatable to because I think the same way.
  • This quote would also be a example of how he would put in funny jokes to make the book sound more entertaining, but he's actually serious most of the time.
CONCLUSION
Wow! these five chapters were very fun to read and kind of sad. I liked the first five chapters better, but these were really good as well. I can't wait to read more of this book! For the first time, I actually want to come back and read more! Its funny because the more you read this book, the more you learn about society, Shane's life, and generally how to accept more of peoples differences! Hopefully, this book keeps its sense of humor and its interesting things, cause I ain't done reading!

SHANE DAWSON: INTERNET SENSATION
(AND MY IDOL)

Two New York Times Award Winning Books

Shane Dawson, where do I begin? Should I start off by the fact that he is an awesome Youtuber that changed many peoples lives including mine? Or that he is an extravagantly successful person who has already made two award winning books, acted in several movies, has over 9 million subscriber on both his youtube channels, and who now hosts a very popular podcast? I guess I'll go with both. In the autobiography: I Hate Myselfie, you will get to learn how Shane Dawson's troubles and doubts and insecurities help him become an internet sensation. In the first five chapters of the book, you will already get moved by how funny, awesome, and interesting this guy really is. You'll also get to know some of his stories from the past like how he hated getting haircuts (because he was insecure) or how he got the role of a fat guy in a play (because at the time he was a little "cushion for the pushin") or even how he got his first kiss by playing a role that required him to kiss another girl in a film. Now, this book might give you an atmosphere of funny, but behind it all the jokes and everything, its actually pretty sad as well. In one of these five chapters, it explains how some kids in his freshman years bullied him verbally for being fat. In these parts of the book I really felt sad for him. What I like about these chapters is the fact that it doesn't go in the order of his life. In one chapter he'll be 21 years old, and in the next one, he'll be 15. In reading these first five chapters, it really made me interested to know more of what will happen.

Quotes:

1. "Destinee: I think I took a little too much off the back. I might have to even your hair out. Are you ok with that?

Am I OK WITH THAT?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! NO! THAT WAS NOT OK!!!!

Shane's old haircut
      Me: Sure"
  • I really found this quote amazingly funny because I can relate to that when I'm cutting my hair. In the book he says he has a hard time saying what he thinks because he is afraid of what other people might think of him. In this quote, it really shows how it can affect him.
  • Page 21, chapter 2, I Hate My Selfie.
  • In the end, the haircut turned out great!
2.  "Surfer Kid 3: Fat people are sad. Is it bad that sometimes I don't consider fat people to be people? Like, I think of them as animals or robots or something. Know what I mean?

  • This was really hard for me to read because of how mean this quote was. It really made me think about the judgment people go through because the are fat or different from others. In another quote in the book, a kid says that fat people are want to kill themselves slowly by eating a lot of food! This really made me angry with how society is today.
  • Page 62, chapter 5, I Hate Myselfie.
  • The worst part was that all these kids said that in front of Shane. The reason he was fat was because he had an eating disorder.
Conclusion:

I really like the first five chapters! It brought my attention and made me want to keep on reading. This book I am very exited to read because the author is my favorite person in the world! I can't wait to see what is next because every chapter inspires me o become a better person in life. I can not really predict what will happen next because the book doesn't go in order. What I do know is that it will be funny, sad, happy, energetic, and inspirational!
